As part of a music series inspired by the landscape exhibit Seeing Nature and John Grade's monumental tree sculpture Middle Fork, Nat Evans will perform his avant-garde sound artistry.
Presented in conjunction with the Seattle Art Museum's Hearing Nature exhibit.
Local musicians respond to the landscape works on view in Seeing Nature: Landscape Masterworks from the Paul G. Allen Family Collection and John Grade: Middle Fork. These brief performances feature a wide range of musical genres including found sound, classical chamber, electronic, and experimental, allowing visitors to experience the natural world through the eyes and ears of great artists and musicians.
This month Nat Evans presents Vertical Saxophone Aura Readings.
Vertical Saxophone Aura Readings is an interactive work for saxophonists on escalators. Two saxophone players will give personal sound escorts to museum patrons on the escalators leading up to the Seeing Nature exhibition. These micro-performances will prime visitors to experience the landscape paintings by briefly exploring the landscape of the museum – seen, heard, and felt.
Nat Evans is a composer and artist based in Seattle, Washington. His interdisciplinary works range from site-specific events and installations to chamber music, scores for dance and film, conceptual works based in ecology and social practice, to meditations on everyday life. His work is regularly presented across the United States, and has also been presented in Europe, South America, Australia, and China. Evans has received numerous commissions including from The Henry, Odeon Quartet, San Francisco MOMA, Seattle Art Museum, The City of Tomorrow, Portland Cello Project, ALL RISE, The Box Is Empty, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, among others.
