Higdon – blue cathedral
Lalo – Cello Concerto
Beethoven – Symphony No. 2

Jennifer Higdon is fast becoming one of America's most celebrated composers, and we are excited to perform her beautiful and deeply moving tribute, blue cathedral.

We are thrilled to welcome back Julian Schwarz to our stage! His artistry keeps reaching new heights, and our first exploration of Lalo's Cello Concerto, one of the few composed by a Frenchman, is most promising.

It does not matter how often they are played. Beethoven symphonies are always a major music event and a great honor to take on. With the 2nd Symphony, LUCO will have completed the entire cycle! By the time Beethoven composed it in 1802, he was in full command of his technique and fiercely individual style. This symphony shocked its audience at the premiere, with its wild emotional range which a famous Viennese critic described as "a wounded dragon that refuses to die"!!
