William Blayney, clarinet
Adam Stern, conductor
Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra

Bernstein – West Side Story: Overture
Mendelssohn – The Hebrides: Overture
Mozart – Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, K. 622
Doráti – Symphony No. 1

A program of music by composers who were also major and influential conductors. Music by Leonard Bernstein opens the program: the overture to his landmark musical West Side Story. Felix Mendelssohn, lauded in his day as a superb conductor, is represented by his concert overture The Hebrides. SPO Principal Clarinet William Blayney will perform Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, still the greatest for the instrument. The concert concludes with the Northwest premiere of the Symphony No. 1 by the great Hungarian-born composer-conductor Antal Doráti, a favorite piece of Music Director Adam Stern's for decades and his first performance of it.

Youth 16 or younger can attend for free! Just print out the voucher here: http://seattlephil.org/images/youthticket.jpg
