Music Director Sarah Ioannides presents the rare and powerful Water Passion after St. Matthew by Tan Dun, best known for his Academy Award winning score for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Commemorating the 250th Anniversary of J.S. Bach, the work features soloists, chorus, and water percussion: bowls and basins filled with water, manipulated by hand and amplified by contact microphones. The work draws on Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and from the theatrical roots of Chinese Peking Opera.
