Mozart – String Quartet in F major K. 168
Hovhaness – Selected works
Brahms – Piano Quintet in F minor Op. 34

By the time he was 17, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an accomplished composer, but still, one might imagine, a teenager. His K. 168 String Quartet in F major is often skipped in concert work because of its youthfulness and brevity. The Aronoff Chamber Players will open with this delightful composition, followed by the early compositions of Alan Hovhaness.

Hovhaness was one of America’s most prolific composers and was the resident composer at the Seattle Symphony during his final years. The program is rounded out with perhaps the grandest of all string/piano quintets – the Op. 34 in F minor of Johannes Brahms. This intense, passionate chamber work was written when the composer was just 31 years old, still on his way to composing the first of his four symphonies.
