This program features choral music by minimalist composers from three countries: Nico Muhly (United States), Arvo Pärt (Estonia), and Henryk Gorecki (Poland). Accompanying these works are motets by contemporary composers selected from a recent call for submissions: Caroline Mallonee, John Duggan, and Teena Lyle.
Vox16 is a professional chamber ensemble of 16 singers dedicated to performing unaccompanied choral music from the Renaissance period to the 21st century. An exciting new presence in Seattle’s vibrant choral community, Vox16 was founded in 2015 by director Markdavin Obenza and is part of the Byrd Ensemble's Professional Choral Affiliates Program.
Director Markdavin Obenza has dedicated his career to music. In addition to Vox16, Markdavin is the Artistic Director and co-founder of the Byrd Ensemble, a Seattle-based early music vocal group, and Producer for Scribe Records, an independent record label. He is an active singer and has performed with the Tudor Choir (US) and members of the Tallis Scholars (UK), in addition to the Byrd Ensemble. He is currently the Director of Choral Music at Trinity Parish Church (Seattle, WA).
