Soojin Torrigiotti, conductor
The Bel Canto Chorus welcomes you to its 2nd Annual Concert. The Bel Canto Chorus is an amateur choir comprised of more than 40 members from different walks of life, united by their love for music and the desire to share this passion with the community at large. They will be performing Korean lyric songs as well as several world-renowned pieces including “Amazing Grace,” “I Will Follow Him,” and “Hallelujah.” In addition, the event will feature guest performances by professional solo vocalists, a violin-cello-piano trio, and a special opera scene from La Traviata by their very own conductor, Soojin Torrigiotti.
With an eclectic catalog of pieces from various genres leaning toward classical, semiclassical, and traditional Korean songs, this concert promotes a diverse musical experience for fans of music in general. In particular, the Bel Canto Chorus seeks to expand the reach of Korean traditional music beyond the Korean community so that everyone can have a chance to enjoy it. The hope is that audience members will walk away with a newfound appreciation for musical expression and the realization that performance art need not be an esoteric affair. With an eye toward honing their craft, the Bel Canto Chorus never ceases to lose sight of what’s truly important: music is for all to listen to and partake in.
