George Walker – Lyric for Strings
Richard Strauss – Metamorphosen, TrV 290, AV 142
Rodion Shchedrin, after Georges Bizet – Carmen Suite for Strings and Percussion

Join the Frost Symphony Orchestra for the passionate and beautiful performance in memory of Frost School student Gregory Cardi, who most recently served as the orchestra’s associate conductor. Enjoy the Lyric for Strings by George Walker, the first Black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize. Listen to Richard Strauss’s last masterwork, Metamorphosen, composed during the closing months of World War II. Finally, take delight in Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite for Strings and Percussion. (Soviet authorities, thinking it too erotic and disrespectful to Bizet's great opera, eventually forbade its performance) Tune in for commentary from Frost SOM teaching assistants revealing more facts about each composition.

The broadcast will begin at 4pm Eastern / 1pm Pacific.
