The innovative and daring new-music ensemble yMusic – “one of the groups that has really helped to shape the future of classical music” (NPR) – boasts a star-studded string of collaborators and admirers from across the musical spectrum, from Paul Simon and Bill T. Jones to Regina Spektor and Ben Folds. With the instrumentation of string trio, flute, clarinet, and trumpet/French horn, the flexible sextet – all members of Generation Y – is sought out for its uncanny ability to bridge contemporary concert music with pop and indie rock sensibilities, effortlessly moving between formal venues like Carnegie Hall and massive arena shows without skipping a beat.

In this very special Cal Performances at Home presentation, yMusic’s brilliant performer-composers – along with guest composers Andrew Norman and Gabriella Smith – join forces with filmmaker Jeremy Robins for a program of original music – including five world premieres! – in brand new video versions that combine live-performance footage with a creative mix of special visual content. A Cal Performances at Home event like no other!

“Chamber ensemble yMusic transformed the surrealistic nostalgia of [Paul Simon’s] ‘René And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After the War’ into a rich and alien tapestry.”
—Chicago Sun-Times
