Award-winning pianist Cecilia Chow has established herself as a soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist and pedagogue with appearances across Hong Kong, China, Spain, Italy, Austria and the United States of America.
In 2011, Chow made her solo debut at the Guangzhou Opera House. In the same year, she was invited to perform during the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. She has been a prizewinner of various competitions and prestigious awards in Hong Kong and abroad, including Internationaler Deutchler Klavier, Steinway and Sons Piano Competition, Toyama Piano Competition, Yamaha Piano Competition and Asia Open Competition.
Chow has performed in concerts and recitals at across multiple venues, including Studzinski Hall, Kilbourn Hall, Galvin Hall, Guangzhou Opera House, Haydn-Haus, Harris Concert Hall, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, the Hong Kong City Hall, and Hong Kong Cultural Center.. In past seasons, she has performed multiple concerts in the Chicagoland area; collaborating with students and faculty members of Northwestern University. She has served as a pianist for the Northwestern University Chamber Orchestra, performing under the baton of Victor Yampolsky and Robert Hasty, throughout multiple seasons. In 2018, Chow co-founded piano trio Coalesce, performing a variety of works from the classical to contemporary repertoire. As a chamber musician, she as worked closely with the Dover Quartet as well as members of the Ying Quartet.
Chow has had the privilege of working with prominent artists of the world, including but not limited to Anton Nel, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Julian Martin, Robert Shannon, Jose Mendez, Logan Skelton, Hie-Yon Choi, Boaz Sharon, James Giles and Ralf Heiber. Festival appearances include the Aspen Music Festival and School, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Gijón International Piano Festival, Amalfi Coast Piano Festival and Classical Music Festival. In the 2017 Season of the Aspen Music Festival and School, she was invited to play alongside legendary pianist Ann Schein at then Harris Concert Hall.
At age 17, Chow received the Howard Hanson Scholarship and the Avis D. Vaughan Scholarship to study at the Eastman School of Music where she earned her Bachelor’s of Music under the tutelage of Alan Chow and Ann Schein. Chow obtained her Master’s of Music in Piano Performance from Northwestern University, where she studied with Sylvia Wang. She is currently pursuing her Artist Diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she studies with John Perry and David Louie.
Chow also has a strong passion for teaching students of all levels and ages. Having held teaching posts at various local music schools, Chow founded her private teaching studio in 2018. She offers both in-person and remote lessons at her private studio in Toronto, Canada.
When not performing, practicing or teaching, she is probably brainstorming ideas for her next educational game for her students, looking up recipes and baking up a storm at home with her cat Aria.
