The Singing in the Rain Family Choir will be collaborating with Mexican conductor Paula Madrigal and the Ballard Civic Orchestra, performing with combined choir, full orchestra, and soloists at the beautiful Plymouth Congregational Church sanctuary downtown. This concert has become a wonderful community event, combining Mexican culture, classical music, intergenerational music-making, fundraising, and delicious hot chocolate and Pan de Muertos (skull shaped bread!) into one rich afternoon. The concert is free, but a collection will be taken for Casa Latina. Last year we raised over $6,000 to support their programming!

This year, the highlight of the concert will be the performance of a new work by a living Mexican composer, Arturo Márquez. The piece, Sueños, is in four movements, with texts based on the words of Guillermo Velázquez, Mahatma Ghandi, Chief Seattle, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The piece is sung in Spanish and features Latin rhythms, along with two soloists, baritone Carlos Monzón and soprano Sari Breznau. In addition to this stunning piece, there will be more orchestral music, Mexican refreshments and handicrafts, and a traditional altar, or ofrenda, where audience members are invited to place mementos and photos of loved ones past to be memorialized and honored, in keeping with the Mexican Dia de Los Muertos tradition.

We hope you can join us for a truly awesome afternoon of music and multicultural community, helping to support the empowering work of Casa Latina.
