Kaija Saariaho – Sept Papillons
Caroline Louise Miller – Ofelia's Life Dream

Guerilla Opera, in partnership with HC Media, kicks off the Boston New Music Festival with live performances of Dreamwalker, a world premiere double-bill of new works exploring themes of life and transformation that expand the definition of opera in surprising ways. Featuring music by Kaija Saariaho and Caroline Louise Miller, perfomed by Aliana de la Guardia (actor) and Stephen Marotto (cello), and works directed by Deniz Khateri and Laine Rettmer.

Dreamwalker features Papillon, a folkloric tale of a Cuban refugee danced through the metaphor of an ever-changing butterfly, featuring animation and direction by Deniz Khateri and Kaija Saariaho's Sept Papillons for solo cello; as well as Ofelia’s Life Dream for actor and electronics, a psychedelic tale of life and death, in which a delirious poet travels dream worlds transforming into mysterious bioluminescent fungi, moths that drink tears of sleeping birds, and giant self-destructing palm trees, with music and libretto by Caroline Louise Miller and direction by Laine Rettmer.

The livestream will take place at 8 pm Eastern / 5pm Pacific.
