Christ Episcopal Church, Tacoma, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the John Brombaugh pipe organ, Opus 22.

Kraig Scott, Professor of Music at Walla Walla University, plays a recital at 4:00 p.m., preceded at 3:00 p.m. by a conversation with organ builder John Brombaugh and David Dahl, Director of Music Ministries at Christ Church from 1969 to 2009. They will recall when they met in 1971 and how they developed the concepts that led to the creation of this renowned instrument.

Dr. Scott’s recital will feature music by George Frideric Handel, Dietrich Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, Cesar Franck, William Albright, Paul Ayres, and David Briggs, showcasing the broad tonal range of the Brombaugh organ.

Along with the St. Mark’s Cathedral Flentrop organ, the Christ Church organ was a landmark instrument helping establish the Pacific Northwest as an oasis for modern pipe organ culture. Join Christ Church parish in the joyful celebration of this pathbreaking instrument!
