On the milestone 75th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra presents the first part of a special, two-day program. Hiroshima-born pianist Mami Hagiwara performs the world premiere of Japanese composer Dai Fujikura's Piano Concerto No. 4. The concerto is dedicated to Akiko, a 19-year-old Hiroshima piano student who was killed in the atomic blast; the premiere will be performed using both a grand piano and Akiko's own upright piano, which survived the explosion. (Ms. Hagiwara is substituting for Martha Argerich, who was scheduled to perform the premiere but is unable to travel due to COVID-19 restrictions) The concert also features mezzo-soprano Mihoko Fujikura on a COVID-adapted program to give remembrance to the lives lost.
The livestream will take place at 6:45pm Japan Standard Time / 2:45am Pacific. Broadcasting live from Hiroshima Bunka Gakuen HBG Hall, Hiroshima, Japan.
This concert will be livestreamed to YouTube, where it will remain viewable after the premiere. Watch the livestream here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QSgJkVEeu4&feature=emb_title
