At the center of this program is Billy Childs’ emotionally stirring third string quartet titled "Unrequited". Childs wrote this work as a response to composer Leoš Janáček’s Intimate Letters, a piece in which Janáček memorialized his unrequited infatuation with a younger married woman. Also featuring SPCO flutist Alicia McQuerrey giving the world premiere of a new work by Adolphus Hailstork as well as exquisite Romantic works by Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms, this program drips with melancholy and yearnings of love unreturned and unfulfilled.
