Tom Cipullo — The Parting

Music of Remembrance presents the world premiere of The Parting, a daring opera by composer Tom Cipullo and librettist David Mason. An intimate exploration of the life and work of Miklós Radnóti, widely considered one of the most important poetic witnesses to the Holocaust, The Parting is a profound and musically rich meditation on what it means to be an artist but also desire ordinary happiness. The program also includes moving chamber works by three Hungarian composers who – like the poet Radnóti – perished at the hands of the Nazis. The world-class vocal cast features the charismatic baritone Michael Mayes of the San Francisco Opera, Metropolitan Opera star mezzo soprano Catherine Cook, and soprano Laura Strickling in her first MOR appearance.
