Johann Michael Haydn – Missa Sancti Aloysii
Francis Poulenc – Gloria

The highly acclaimed Northwest Boychoir announces their Choral Tradition series for June 2018. Now in its fourth season, Choral Tradition celebrates the breadth and diversity of the classical choral repertoire. This year’s program will feature Johann Michael Haydn’s Missa Sancti Aloysii, composed in 1777 for treble voices, and Francis Poulenc’s Gloria, composed in 1959/1960 for SATB chorus.

The Northwest Boychoir’s musical sophistication, rich tonal quality, and dedication to exacting perfection have established its reputation as one of the nation’s premier boychoirs. Along with Vocalpoint! Seattle, the Northwest Boychoir has trained thousands of young singers for more than 40 years, and more significantly, shaped the lives of our region’s youth by teaching important lessons in personal commitment and the value of teamwork. Led by Joseph Crnko, now in his 34th year as Music Director, the Choir’s staff of professional musicians and educators is engaged in the teaching of a rigorous curriculum that trains young singers, 6-18 years old, to be fully-skilled musicians who sing at the highest professional level, read music fluently and perform in professional settings with confidence.

For more than 30 years, the Choirs have maintained a close working relationship with the Seattle Symphony and participate annually in the performance of great choral works. Last year, the Northwest Boychoir joined with the SSO to perform Messiaen’s Trois petites liturgies de la présence divine. Of that performance, Seattle Times music critic Thomas May wrote that the Northwest Boychoir sang “with miraculously pure intonation and impressive diction.” Of that same concert, music critic Erica Miner said, “That these young boys were able to master the difficult dissonances and numerous high notes required in the score, not to mention prolonged singing and Sprechstimme in the always-difficult French language, was an astonishing accomplishment.” This season with the Seattle Symphony, the Northwest Boychoir and men of Vocalpoint were featured in the iconic Berlioz' Requiem, Vivadi’s Gloria, Orff’s Carmina burana, and Stravinisky’s Persephone.

Along with a very active performance schedule, the Northwest Boychoir is regularly contracted for recording engagements. Last year’s projects included recording the soundtrack for Cirque du Soleil’s new production, Volta. The Northwest Boychoir serves as the official “Singing Ambassadors” of Washington.
