This concert will present the Seattle premiere of String Quartet No. 2 by Romania’s foremost composer, George Enescu; and the US Premiere of Violin Sonata No. 2 by Danish composer Vagn Holmboe, whose love and connections in Transylvania are superbly documented in his music. This luscious afternoon of music will continue with the temperamental accents of Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs) by Dvořák and the sheer beauty of Sieben frühe Lieder (Seven Early Songs) by Alban Berg, who was only 20 years old when he composed this masterpiece; as well as the US premiere of What Keeps Us Still for string quartet, soprano, and piano by Forrest Pierce, a contemporary composer who blends Sufism philosophy into his music.

ROCCA Founder and Artistic Director, pianist Oana Rusu Tomai will join Lincoln Center and Los Angeles Philharmonic operatic soprano and cutting-edge stage presence Laura Bohn; Seattle Symphony  violinist Mikhail Shmidt; and the acclaimed Seattle-based Girsky Quartet, known for their impassioned and nuanced concerts. Pacific Northwest Ballet dancer Cecilia Iliesiu joins ROCCA onstage to invite our audiences to step into an enthralling choreography fused into the musical experience.

ROCCA Youth Pre-Concert, a FREE event presenting gifted young pianists, will take place at 2 pm in the same hall as the ROCCA Concert.

Tickets: $25. Fees apply for online purchases.
