With our final live broadcast of the 20.21 season, we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the online SPCO Concert Library. Since the launch of this online streaming platform in 2017, hundreds of thousands of viewers in Minnesota and beyond have experienced live or on-demand SPCO concert videos for free. The Concert Library plays an integral role in our mission to share music with the broadest possible audience in our community, making our concerts available anytime, anywhere, completely free of charge.

The evening opens with Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw’s string quartet Entr’acte, inspired by Franz Joseph Haydn’s Second String Quartet, which, in her words, “takes you to the other side of Alice’s looking glass, in a kind of absurd, subtle, technicolor transition." SPCO Principal Clarinet Sang Yoon Kim performs in two world premieres — one for solo clarinet by Michi Wiancko and a duo with Principal Bass Zachary Cohen by Clarice Assad. We also share Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sextet for Two Horns and Strings, composed during his student years and modeled after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, before ending with an early career work by Felix Mendelssohn. He wrote his Second String Quintet while falling deeply in love, and it offers a passionate ending to our Season Finale.

This is a rebroadcast of a recent live streamed concert.

The broadcast will take place at 7pm Central / 5pm Pacific.
