Adam Stern, conductor

J.S. Bach – Fantasia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 537 (orch. Elgar)
Schumann – Overture, Scherzo and Finale
Nielsen – Symphony No. 3, "Sinfonia Espansiva"

A concert displaying the virtuosity of the Sammamish Symphony in compositions from three different centuries. Johann Sebastian Bach's mighty Fantasia and Fugue in C minor, originally for organ, is transformed into an imposing work for orchestra by Edward Elgar (famous for his "Enigma" Variations).

Robert Schumann's charming Overture, Scherzo and Finale, essentially a miniature symphony, is given an all-too-rare performance. The program concludes with music by Carl Nielsen, Denmark's greatest composer: the kaleidoscopic and romantic Symphony No. 3, dubbed "Sinfonia Espansiva" by Nielsen himself.

Tickets: $20 ($15 senior/student, $10 age 10 & under)
