Handel – Water Music (orch. Harty)
Dan Welcher – Venti di Mare ("Sea Winds")
Tchaikovsky – The Storm, Op. 76
Respighi – The Fountains of Rome

"The driving force of all nature" was how Leonardo da Vinci characterized water, and composers have made water in all its forms the subject of compositions for centuries.

George Frideric Handel's festive Water Music opens the program, which then features an appealing and intriguing oboe concerto, Sea Winds, by American composer Dan Welcher.

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's early symphonic poem The Storm, inspired by a play by Tchaikovsky's near-contemporary Alexander Ostrovsky, is followed by Ottorino Respighi's The Fountains of Rome, the first work in his famous "Roman trilogy" that would later be joined by The Pines of Rome and Roman Festivals.

Washington State native Brent Hages received his formal training at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Temple University, studying with James B. Caldwell, Alfred Genovese, and Louis Rosenblatt. Freelancing and private teaching have taken him to Cleveland, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, and, currently, Seattle.

Mr. Hages performs with Seattle Symphony, Pacific Northwest Ballet, the former Bellevue Philharmonic and Bellevue Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet, Yakima Symphony, Wenatchee Symphony, Bellevue Chamber Chorus, and Shoreline Community College theatre productions. Other highlights in recent years include performing with legendary singer Mimi Hines, Idina Menzel, Il Divo, Mannheim Steamroller, and Three Irish Tenors. Mr. Hages has recorded extensively for movie soundtracks.

Tickets: $20 ($15 senior/student, $10 age 10 & under)
