Program Notes
In this airy work that was written to be performed outdoors, Beethoven uses each instrument to the fullest effect to create a dynamic range of sound for such a small ensemble.

Based on Spanish folk melodies, particularly cante jondo (“deep song”), Turina incorporates this form of vocal music from the flamenco tradition into his score.

One of Mendelssohn’s most popular chamber works, the Piano Trio was revised to be more in line with the music of Schumann, which is most clear from the demands of the pianist in the final movement.
