Program Notes
The Terzetto was written for Dvořák's neighbor, an amateur violinist, so he could join in the music-making. The piece proved too difficult for an amateur and became one of the best-known concert works for this ensemble type.
Chopin’s Cello Sonata was premiered at his last public performance with the work's dedicatee, Auguste Franchomme. He struggled writing this piece, as shown by the numerous sketches he had worked on before its publication.
Written in memory of the recently-deceased Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff's Piano Trio follows the same structure as Tchaikovsky’s work in A minor, which written in honor of the composer's friend, Nikolai Rubinstein.
