Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov – Scheherazade, 1st movement (1888)
Leanna Primiani – 1001 (2019, world premiere)
Paul Hindemith – Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber (1943)
Walt Wagner – The Miracle, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra (1996)

Seattle Collaborative Orchestra and the Saratoga Orchestra combine forces for a spring concert featuring works that were inspired by others, changing and metamorphosing the original into something new.

The program begins with the first movement, “The Sea and Sinbad's Ship”, from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's timeless classic, Scheherazade. Then, the combined ensemble will give the world premiere of Leanna Primiani's 1001, a modern musical response to the epic tale of Scheherazade – this time from her perspective.

Also, on the program is Paul Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis, the first work he wrote in the United States after being banned by Nazis in his homeland of Germany. The piece is based on themes by composer Carl Maria von Weber.

Lastly, the orchestras will give the first complete live performance of Seattle composer Walt Wagner's The Miracle Piano Concerto. The work has four movements: Promise, Struggle, Faithfulness, and Fulfillment, and was inspired by his personal Christian faith.

Come early for a pre-concert chat at 6:45pm!

Tickets: $25 ($20 senior/military, under 18 free – no ticket required)

About Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island

Whidbey's Saratoga Orchestra formed as an expansion of the Saratoga Chamber Players founded by Whidbey Island's legendary violinist and arts supporter, Michael Nutt. Previously known as Saratoga Chamber Orchestra, the name is derived from the beautiful Saratoga Passage that flanks the east side of Whidbey Island and the stand of trees known as the Saratoga Woods. In 2007, Legh W. Burns, Music Director Emeritus, began a regular concert series performing throughout the island for Whidbey audiences. Dr. Anna Edwards has led the orchestra as Music Director since 2015, and has brought national attention to the ensemble for its innovative programming championing women, BIPOC and underrepresented composers and hosting the highly esteemed Pacific Northwest Conducting Institute held each summer.
