Gathering Place at Kent Lutheran, the Kent Downtown Partnership, and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra present a relaxing evening of beautiful music featuring duets by Mary Riles on cello and Sheila Weidendorf on piano.

Mary Riles received her BA in Classics and BM in Cello Performance from Oberlin College & Conservatory of Music, and her Masters of Music from the Esther Boyer College of Music at Temple University. She lives in Seattle, Washington, where she is principal cellist of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and a member of the North Corner Chamber Orchestra. She has also performed with various ensembles in Juneau, Alaska, including the Symphony Orchestra, the Orpheus Project, and the Juneau Bach Society, and additionally been involved in many performances of both solo and chamber works in St. Louis, Ohio, Texas, New York, and Philadelphia. Chamber music is one of her passions, and she loves having the opportunity to dig into the rich and varied repertoire for cello and piano. Mary maintains a private cello lesson studio, coaches string ensembles, and offers cello camps during the summer.

Sheila Weidendorf is the founder and director of Island Consort, a Whidbey Island-based chamber music group of vocalists and instrumentalists performing music from the Renaissance to the 21st century. A graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Music, she suffered significant injury early on and didn't play seriously for almost 20 years, somewhat accidentally returning to music some 7 or 8 years ago. In addition to her regular Consort season, she produces an annual Women in Music Festival, a contemporary composition "New Music on the Rock" series and now, a new salon series in her Whidbey home. Besides her penchant for chamber music, Sheila does improvisational piano meditations often performed for poetry events and is leaning into the world of Hindustani classical music on her harmonium.
