Aaron Copland – The Tender Land (complete opera)

In the 2017 summer season, the Marrowstone Music Festival and the Seattle Opera present a three-week intensive voice and performance training program for vocal artists ages 16-22. The Seattle Opera Academy at Marrowstone takes place July 16-August 6, 2017 alongside the Festival’s internationally acclaimed instrumental program.

Students will be provided with two different programs of study; the Principal Artist Program and Opera Chorus Program. Each will spend time learning in the classroom and on the stage alongside other young performing artists, and will include opportunities to participate in masterclasses, workshops, and performances. The 2017 Opera Academy will include two performances of Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land on August 4th and 5th; a community performance of Brahms' Shicksalslied; and other solo and ensemble performances in the local community.

An institution since 1943, Marrowstone Music Festival is the Pacific Northwest’s premiere orchestral training program. Marrowstone is presented by the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and is hosted by Western Washington University. Located in picturesque Bellingham, overlooking the Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains, the WWU campus offers a uniquely intimate environment for Marrowstone’s Pre-College, University, and Fellowship divisions.
