The Wind Ensemble’s winter concert centers on the only band work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Del Tredici: In Wartime. Written in New York City during the time between 9/11 and the spring of 2002, this piece reflects the various complex emotions that surround a nation preparing for war. We continue to showcase music by women and minorities as we explore two composers’ approaches to sunlight. Cait Nishimura’s Chasing Sunlight and Kevin Day’s Shimmering Sunshine offer a ray of hope during the deep dark nights of winter in the Northwest.
