Seattle Symphony

Benaroya Hall, Seattle, WA

Bizet – Jeux d’enfants, Op. 22
Mozart – Piano Concerto No. 9, K. 271 “Jeunehomme”
Ravel – L’enfant et les sortilèges

A rare, semi-staged performance of Ravel’s one-act opera. With charming text by the famed French novelist Colette and Ravel’s masterpiece score, L’enfant et les sortilèges (“The Child and the Spells”) is a rich fantasy of fairy tale characters, plants and little animals brought to life. Ravel is the original sampler, combining elements of ragtime, jazz, 18th century dance and lushness. A musical highpoint of the season not to be missed.

Bring a young person! The Seattle Symphony invites up to two people ages 8–18 to attend this show FREE with the purchase of an accompanying adult ticket. Family Connections passes become available three weeks prior to the concert date, and are available by phone and in-person at the Seattle Symphony Ticket Office. Click here for more information about Family Connections tickets.

This concert is an LMP Critic’s Pick: “This is a rare chance to see and hear Ravel’s unusual short opera, L’enfant et lest sortileges. The set is slow-motion videos projected on dangling ribbons and the characters are delineated by head sculptures. Should be fascinating.” ~ Seattle music critic Philippa Kiraly
