Daniel Vnukowski, piano

Franz Schubert – Piano Sonata No. 21 in B-flat major, D. 960

Renowned concert pianist Daniel Vnukowski performs Franz Schubert’s sublime, masterful Piano Sonata, D. 960 in B-flat major, a monumental piece that Schubert wrote during the last year of his life in 1828. The first movement is a deeply, spiritual work that begins with a soft chorale and is immediately intercepted by a trill in the low register of the piano, resembling the rumble of distant thunder. At one point during the work, we also hear a quote from Adestes Fideles, also known as O Come All Ye Faithful, an unsurprising coincidence given the heavenly nature of this movement. This piano sonata is a genuine retreat from the madness of the outside world!

The broadcast will take place at 3pm Eastern / 12pm Pacific. The event will be archived for 1 month.

This virtual recital requires a $12 ticket purchase, but is free of charge for DIGITAL and STAR pass holders (it will show up as an additional event in your original virtual access link).
