A new take on a traditional Tacoma favorite! The TSO’s annual collage of seasonal musical delights will be co-led by our chorus director along with conductor/pianist/arranger Bo Ayars. Geoffrey brings his stellar 70-voice Tacoma Symphony Chorus; Bo is joined by his wife Barbara and her amazing close-harmony vocal group, Signatures.
Rarely does a vocal group have four gifted soloists, each a headliner in her own right, with her own unique signature. Hence the name! Signatures has it all: solos, duets, trios and lush 4-part harmony – part '40s style Pied Pipers, part 5th Dimension, part Manhattan Transfer. Put them together with the 70-piece Tacoma Symphony Chorus and the 80-piece Tacoma Symphony Orchestra? Yuletide magic for the whole family will result!
The lineup includes music from the movie Miracle on 34th Street, Rutter's delightful setting of the Twelve Days of Christmas and his gripping Gloria, and the brisk Troika from Prokofiev's Lt. Kije. Bo Ayars has created many new arrangements specially for this concert, including "A Soalin'," "I Saw Three Ships," "I Wonder As I Wander," a "White Christmas" medley, and "The Holly and the Ivy," among others. In addition, we will reprise his setting of Vince Guaraldi's poignant "Christmastime is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
The program will feature a constantly-shifting sonic palette, including orchestra alone, orchestra and chorus, Signatures with the symphony, and all three together. The audience will be invited to get into the act on several occasions to sing carols and holiday favorites along with the entire company!
