30 young singers vie for cash prizes and a chance to compete on the Metropolitan Opera stage. These auditions are part of the longest-running singing competition in the country. Over 100 former auditioners are on the Met’s roster annually.

The Washington District Auditions winners will go on to compete in the Northwest Region Finals in February 2019 at Benaroya Hall.  The Districts comprising the Northwest Region are Idaho/Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Western Canada.  The 1st place winner of the Northwest Region Finals will join the 1st place winners from 11 other Regions across the United States in New York City for the National Semi-Finals in March 2019.  Each finalist in the National Semi-Finals competition receives a cash prize, coaching from the Metropolitan Opera staff, and lastly competes in the National Grand Finals Concert accompanied by the Metropolitan Orchestra on Sunday, March 31, 2019, to a sold-out audience.

The distinguished panel of judges includes Richard Bado, (Director of Artistic Operations/Chorus Master, Houston Grand Opera), Brent McMunn, (Music Director of Opera, Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California), and Nino Sanikidze, (Head Coach, Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program, LA Opera).

Glory in a day of opera.  You just might catch a rising star!
