Curated & composed by Chris Stover. Five new compositions for chamber jazz ensemble (plus spoken word, found sounds, and dancer) inspired by the Brazilian poets Ana Cristina Cesar, Angélica Freitas, and Augusto de Campos.
The inspiration for the project stems from the composer's recent experience in Brazil, where he spent six months studying rhythmic process and improvisational interaction in music. The compositions premiered here draw proliferating lines that spin out from themes emerging in poetry and found sounds: life cycles, birth and rebirth, change and becoming, fusion and elision, flow and process, eternal recurrence. Identity spins out in multiple directions, concrete lines melt into fluid circles...
