José Mauricio Nuñes Garcia — Selected works

Brenna Wells, soprano
Henry Lebedinsky, fortepiano

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Viennese Classical style had a profound influence on the music of colonial South America and on the birth of the modinha, an art song genre unique to Brazil. Explore these fascinating musical cross-currents through the music of Black composer José Mauricio Nuñes Garcia (1767-1830) and his contemporaries sung by acclaimed soprano Brenna Wells and fortepianist Henry Lebedinsky, performing on an original 1799 square piano by George Astor.

$25 admission includes the wine tasting – a great value! Seating is limited, advance ticket purchase recommended.
