Mahler: Symphony No. 4
Mahler: Das Klagende Lied (complete version - NW premiere)

The Northwest Mahler Orchestra presents Gustav Mahler’s epic cantata, Das Klagende Lied (Song of Lamentation). Directing the orchestra is Dr. Nikolas Caoile, the 2014 Northwest Mahler Orchestra Principal Conductor. Opening the program will be Richard Wagner’s Parsifal Prelude, along with another Gustav Mahler work, Symphony No. 4.

Northwest Mahler Orchestra is the primary performance ensemble of the Northwest Mahler Festival, founded in 1995. It is unique in its combination of the talents of fine professional, avocational and student musicians from the Pacific Northwest. During its 20-year history, the orchestra has brought the works of Mahler and other romantic composers to the Puget Sound audience including a July 2000 performance of Mahler’s 8th Symphony – "Symphony of a Thousand." Most recently, the orchestra presented Mahler’s 3rd Symphony and the Seattle premiere of Oliver Messiaen’s Turangalîla. The orchestra’s complement of musicians averages over 125 each year.

Dr. Caoile is a sought-after conductor, pianist and educator. Concurrently serving as Conductor and Artistic Director of the Salem Chamber Orchestra, Music Director and Conductor of the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra, and Director of Orchestras at Central Washington University, Caoile’s artistic leadership has made an impact with professional, community and academic orchestras. Caoile regularly guest-conducts many other orchestras, including the Northwest Mahler Festival Orchestra, the Rainier Symphony and the Yakima Symphony. He made his New York City debut in 2009 conducting the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas in collaboration with Christopher Wheeldon's Morphoses Dance Company at New York City Center. You'll find more information on Maestro Caoile at www.nikolascaoile.com/.
