Shostakovich – String Quartet No. 8 in C minor, Op. 110
Shostakovich – String Quartet No. 9 in E-flat major, Op. 117
Shostakovich – String Quartet No. 10 in A-flat major, Op. 118

Trio Pardalote is planning a celebration concert to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Shostakovich's 9th and 10th quartets. They were premiered together on Nov. 21, 1964 by the Beethoven Quartet, performing at the Moscow Conservatory. We couldn't quite pull it off for the exact date, but we'll get it in November, on Friday the 7th at the Royal Room. It will be a festive occasion – happens to also be Heather Bentley's 50th birthday, so the evening is as follows:

8 PM: 8th quartet (Victoria Parker, Blayne Barnes, Heather Bentley, Rowena Hammill)
Break
9 PM: 9th quartet (Mikhail Shmidt, Artur Girsky, Heather, Rowena)
Break
10 PM: 10th quartet (Artur Girsky, Natasha Bazhanov, Heather, Rowena)

THEN

Wayne Horvitz on piano, Jimmie Herrod, vocals, plus Geoff Harper, bass and Eric Eagle, drums, join forces for Quartet Royale and play jazz into the wee hours of the 8th.

No cover. Donations gratefully accepted.
