Felix Mendelssohn – "I. Tema con Variazioni. Andante Sostenuto" & "II. Scherzo. Allegro leggiero" from Four Pieces for String Quartet, Op. 81
Felix Mendelssohn – String Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20

Felix Mendelssohn’s rousing String Octet, composed when the wunderkind was just 16 years old, is one of the most beloved works in all of classical music. The celebrated Daedalus Quartet made its DACAMERA debut in this 2019 concert, joining DACAMERA favorites the Brentano Quartet for a spirited rendition of the masterpiece. The stream opens with a newly commissioned performance by the Brentano Quartet of two rarely-heard Mendelssohn pieces for string quartet, from the last year of his life, "Theme and Variations" and "Scherzo", from 1847, and a conversation with the Brentano’s Mark Steinberg.

The broadcast will take place at 7pm Central / 5pm Pacific.

Free event, but reservation is required. Before the event, registered viewers will receive an email with the link to watch. After the initial premiere stream, watch on demand for 1 week. Registration stays open after the premiere for instant on-demand viewing.
