The Young Artists Debut! Concerto Concert winners will make their debut on Friday, November 18, 2022, accompanied by musicians from the Oregon Symphony and Oregon Ballet Theatre orchestras. The concert will be conducted by Jonathan DeBruyn, 2022 YAD Program Director & Conductor.
The six fantastic Young Artists Debut! winners who will be performing with a full orchestra are:
Derek Choi, age 16, of Portland, OR – violinist. Student of Hae-Jin Kim, performing the third movement of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64.
Eliana Choi, age 16, of Lake Oswego, OR – pianist. Student of Linda Barker, performing the third movement of Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 25.
Claudio Chung, age 17, of Portland, OR – pianist. Student of Linda Barker, performing the first movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 19.
Ellie Kim, age 15, of Portland, OR – violinist. Student of Carol Sindell, performing the second movement of Bloch’s Baal Shem, B. 47.
Kristen Kim, age 12, of Portland, OR – cellist. Student of Hyun-Jin Kim, performing the third movement of Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto No. 1, Op. 33.
Timothy Lee, age 17, of Beaverton, OR – violinist. Student of Carol Sindell, performing Ravel's Tzigane, M. 76.
This will be a life-changing concert for all of the artists and a fantastic opportunity to hear legends in the making.

About Ellie Kim, violin
Ellie Kim is a violinist for the Portland Youth Philharmonic and one of All Classical Portland's Youth Artist Ambassadors. A 16-year-old violinist from Portland, Oregon, Ellie Kim, started playing violin at the age of five. In 2020, she won first prize in the Young Artist of the Canadian International Music Competition and second prize in the senior division of the 2022 Oregon Mozart Players Young Artist Competition. She has also been awarded prizes by the Monday Musical Club, the Oregon Music Teachers Association Instrumental Scholarship, and the Jeannette Scott Briggs Scholarship.
A winner of the Cognizart Young Artists Debut! Competition, Ellie has soloed with members of the Oregon Symphony. She is also an ambassador for the Interlochen Arts Summer Academy and a member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic. Ellie loves expressing herself through music and enjoys exploring various styles as she learns to become a more artistic musician.
