Elgar – Enigma Variations
Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra kicks off its season with a program showcasing English greats and their resplendent orchestration, grandeur, and pomp. William Walton wrote Crown Imperial: Coronation March for the crowning of Edward VIII in May 1937. When Edward VIII abdicated, the work was instead performed for his younger brother, George VI. Vaughan Williams wrote his Piano Concerto in C for pianist Harriet Cohen. This virtuosic concerto pays homage to Bach while also expressing a percussive and exuberant energy. The program concludes with Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, in which each variation is inspired by and dedicated to Elgar’s friends and loved ones.
Admission: $19 ($16 youth/senior)
