Every instrument has a right to shine, and tubas and euphoniums have staked out Christmas as their glory-moment. Polished instruments gleam as their owners proudly perform music originally designed for angels and harps. The mass effect of multiple tubas and their cousins must bring unexpected joy at the surprising combination. Smiling is irresistible!!

Carla Rutschman and the WWU Sweet and Low tuba quartet will present a seasonal program spanning seven centuries, from the ancient tune "Good King Wenceslas" through several modern updates of traditional favorites, including "The 12 Daze of Christmas." In between are compositions representing the traditions of several different cultures, including a Klezmer folksong and an original piece in which the group imitates the strumming of a Spanish guitar. The quartet will romp through Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Dance of the Tumblers” from his opera The Snow Maiden, and even try to outrun an Avalanche!

Tickets: $20/$15 on sale at Village Books, Food Co-op locations, online, and at the door. Take a teen for FREE! For details, visit www.bellinghammusicclub.org or call 360-305-6526.
