University of Puget Sound faculty designed this concert to recognize April 9, 2019 as the 80th anniversary of American singer Marian Anderson's (1897– 1993) famous performance in front of the Lincoln Memorial when she was denied use of Constitution Hall because she was black.

Originally performed Feb. 1, 2019 as part of the Jacobsen Series, this broadcast is brought to you by the School of Music "Loggers Perform Summer Series" – virtual concerts scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7:30pm Pacific through Aug. 14 via Schneebeck LIVE.

Named in honor of Leonard Jacobsen, former chair of the piano department at Puget Sound, the Jacobsen Professional Artist Series was established in 1984 and features School of Music faculty and their guests. Ticket sales support the Jacobsen Series Scholarship Fund, which awards annual music scholarships to an outstanding member of Sigma Alpha Iota, international music fraternity.
