Ludwig van Beethoven, arr. Ferdinand Ries – "II. Marcia funebre. Adagio assai" from Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55 "Eroica" (piano quartet arrangement)
Tyson Davis – Tableau No. X for Solo Trumpet (world premiere)
Stewart Goodyear – Piano Quartet
Johannes Brahms – Piano Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 25

Pianist Stewart Goodyear joins The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for a program of piano quartets — but with some unexpected twists and turns. The program begins with the Marcia funebre from Beethoven’s Third Symphony, "Eroica" – except heard here in the stunning piano quartet arrangement by Beethoven’s friend Ferdinand Ries.

The musicians also tackle Goodyear’s own inventive Piano Quartet and Brahms’ first Piano Quartet, originally written for Romantic pianist and composer Clara Schumann. SPCO trumpeter Lynn Erickson premieres a new solo work by rising talent Tyson Davis, who was a 2019 Apprentice Composer for the National Youth Orchestra-USA and a NextNotes awardee with the American Composers Forum.

This is a rebroadcast of the Saturday, October 3, 2020 livestream concert.

The broadcast will take place at 2pm Central / 12pm Pacific.
