Georg Friedrich Haas – In iij. Noct. ("In the Dark")

Love high-quality classical music but hate the drive to Seattle? Come out to Emerald City Music – 45 incredible musicians from all over the globe gather in Olympia all season long to enjoy high-caliber performances in this beautiful, local setting.

On the heels of Halloween weekend, immerse yourself in a terrifying musical experience – Georg Friedrich Haas’ In iij. Noct. for string quartet. With the absence of light as the focus, this hour-long string quartet is performed completely in the dark as four musicians surround the audience from the corners of the venue. This, Haas’s third quartet of such nature, is composed as a verbal score, with many details and decisions left to the performers. No single performance of this work is the same – the musicians throughout the piece will decide (by communicating in complete pitch-black darkness) how far they wish to go down each musical path together before turning back.
