Tiara Oberoi – Lacrimosa
Josquin des Prez – Miserere
Robert White – Lamentations a 6
Dawn Walters – Pro Dolorosa (world premiere)

The Swan Consort presents 'Lamentations', a meditative programme in aid of the charity Mind. Created to offer a cathartic and peaceful period of reflection for audience members, Lamentations explores themes of grief and hope through poetry, polyphony and new music written in response to the global pandemic. Josquin’s intricate setting of the well-known Miserere text is juxtaposed with the crystal tones of Tiara Oberoi’s short piece Lacrimosa, written by the 17-year-old Indian composer in dedication to those who have lost their lives to Covid-19. Robert White’s evocative 6-part setting of the Lamentations follows, along with a world premiere of Dawn Walters’ Pro Dolorosa.

Filmed in Ullet Road Unitarian Church, Liverpool, this programme from The Swan Consort aims to offer a period of contemplation and catharsis for audience members, whilst 25% of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Mind. Artistic Director Anita Datta explains, “I wanted to make a programme that reflected the mood of the season. So many of us are struggling as restrictions continue, and the pandemic brings with it a mental health crisis too. It just felt right that we should make a donation to Mind from the ticket sales. Musicians serve the community, and the community needs this right now.”

Lamentations is available until 21st April 2021, or for 30 days after purchase (whichever is later). 25% of ticket revenue will be donated to the charity Mind, to support mental health provision in the UK. The rest will go to support and sustain our young freelance artists, as their work continues to be restricted and financial support draws to a close.

Tickets start at £8 / $11.18 U.S.
