National Sawdust

Online event, Anywhere in the world, WA

In unprecedented times, new evolving models and ways of thinking are necessary. National Sawdust has responded to the pandemic by creating the New Works Commission, and awarding twenty composers the resources to create a new work for streamed performance.

This is the first of two online performances of the commissioned works, hosted by the composers themselves, we will hear about their experience with the commission, and how it has impacted their work during this time. They will give us an overview of the music, their process, and technical elements within the work, and what it means for them to be an artist at this time.

The performance will feature the National Sawdust Ensemble performing music by the 10 composers Michele Cheng, James Diaz, Baldwin Giang, Clifton Joey Guidry III, Julie Herndon, Mario Layne Fabrizio, Finola Merivale, Kelley Sheehan, Bethany Younge, and Manjing Zhang.

The broadcast will take place at 5pm Eastern / 2pm Pacific.
