Copland – Concerto for Clarinet
Barber – Knoxville: Summer of 1915
Hailstork – Symphony No. 1

Artistic Partner David Lockington opens the season with a collection of works examining the many views of America, through the eyes of 20th century composers. Samuel Barber’s lush Knoxville: Summer of 1915 brings the poetry of James Agee to life through music, with soprano Jennifer Bromagen taking audiences on a journey through a young man’s upbringing in the South. Copland’s spirited Clarinet Concerto, written for famed jazz performer Benny Goodman, fuses the spirit of popular music with the composer’s signature classical style. The program ends with the first symphony of Adolphus Hailstork, considered by many to be today’s foremost living African-American composer.

Artists and repertoire subject to change.
