Johannes Brahms – Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, Op. 8
Antonín Dvořák – String Sextet in A major, Op. 48
Schubert, Brahms, and Dvořák wrote extensively for the voice throughout their careers. These three works draw upon these composers' fascination with melodic invention and how the human voice can be recreated by string and keyboard instruments. In addition, Brahms wrote his first Piano Trio as a young man but revised the work at the end of his career, transforming a composition that was often neglected into one of the most-performed pieces of chamber music.
The artists will be available immediately after the performance for a question & answer session with the audience.
