Heinrich Schütz – Psalmen Davids (selections)
Arvo Pärt – Which was the son of...
Various – German chorales and Latin motets

The Seattle Bach Choir is delighted to introduce our new artistic director, Dr. Daniel Mahraun, debuting with our fall 2019 concert, Beginnings.

With musical settings of the Genesis creation narrative and celebrations of that creation, we mark the beginning of all things with works of Heinrich Schütz, Handl, Cyrillus Kreek, and others. Arvo Pärt’s Which was the son of… traces Biblical genealogy from Adam to Jesus, and leads to works marking the beginning of the church year – Advent. Chorales and works by J.S. Bach’s predecessors Johann Walter and Andreas Hammerschmidt celebrate this season along with more selections from Schütz’s Psalmen Davids.

We welcome Daniel Mahraun, our new musical director with this concert. He comes to the Seattle Bach Choir having served as Director of Choral Activities at Bethany College (Kan.) and Minnesota State University Moorhead, and having worked for nearly ten years with The Rose Ensemble. Dr. Mahraun brings new expertise, energy, and excitement to our offerings.

The Seattle Bach Choir is an accomplished 48-voice SATB choir, dedicated to presenting high quality performances of choral literature that’s not often performed. While the music of the Baroque and J.S. Bach remains our mainstay, we are dedicated to offering a variety of choral works from across the centuries.

We host a pre-concert lecture and wine-and-cheese reception at 2:15pm, preceding the 3pm Sunday afternoon concert. We hope you will join us!
