Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges – L'Amant anonyme

L'Amant anonyme is an 18th-Century opera that tells the story of a lover afraid to reveal his true identity to the object of his affections. This is perhaps modeled on the composer. Chevalier de Saint Georges' own experience as someone of African ancestry, able to love – but never marry – a European woman. One of the earliest known composers of color, Saint-Georges rose to fame in the period before the French Revolution. He was known as "the black Mozart". Our adaptation of his only surviving complete opera score would incorporate the composer's swashbuckling biography and would celebrate the unusual environment of Saint-Georges' life.

The livestream will take place at 7:30pm Pacific. Broadcasting live from San Francisco, CA.
