Sophie Baird-Daniel, harp

Elias Parish-Alvars – Introduction and Variations on Bellini’s Norma, Op. 36
Paul Hindemith – Harp Sonata

We are excited to feature harpist Sophie Baird-Daniel this Friday! Praised for her “technicolor” sound (Gramophone), Sophie is in high demand as a soloist and collaborator. As an orchestral musician, Sophie performs with the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, San Francisco Ballet, and Orquestra Filarmonica de Jalisco. Sophie is the artistic director of Archipelago Collective, a dynamic chamber music festival on San Juan Island, Washington.

She'll be playing two pieces: "Introduction and Variations on Bellini’s Norma, Op. 36" by E. Parish-Alvars and "Sonata for Harp" by P. Hindemith.

"These two pieces represent everything I love about my instrument. 'Norma' is fabulously flashy and fun, exhibiting the harp in all its technical splendor. In contrast, the Hindemith is strong and forceful. This three movement piece doesn’t end with a bang like most sonatas. Instead, it concludes with a quiet and contemplative 'Lied'. –Sophie

The livestream will take place at 7:30pm Pacific.
