The Daphnes: 'Braids of Kabuya'
$10
Julie Baldridge, violin
Nate Omdal, bass
Monica Schley, harp/vocals
The Daphnes is a trio led by one of Seattle’s finest harpists, Monica Schley, and includes Nate Omdal (bass) and Julie Baldridge (violin). They will be performing their unique sound of chamber jazz from their new album, Braids of Kabuya. Ms. Schley’s original compositions feature the harp’s intricacies in a modern light as well as her rich voice. This unconventional group draws sounds from neo-folkster M. Ward, vocal qualities of k.d. lang, jazz musicians Pharaoh Sanders and Alice Coltrane, and literary poet Anne Sexton. The Daphnes have been playing together for three years and have frequented lounges like The Sorrento Hotel and Egan's. A sound as smooth and relaxing as theirs is easily paired with wine on a mid-winter’s night.
